Git4D – a 4D component with code and documentation 100% produced by Claude

Version control in 4D usually means leaving 4D to use another tool like the terminal, GitHub Desktop, SourceTree, Tower, etc. — tools that see .4dm and .4DForm files as general text. Git4D is a 4D component that keeps the source-code management and version control in the 4D IDE and has the added benefit that it understands the files it is controlling. You can still use your other favorite tools, but now you don’t need to.

Just put the Git4D component in your host’s components folder, and you never have to leave 4D for anything! The integrated side-by-side diff viewer compares 4D Forms, Methods, Classes, or any other text document in the project folder that is not git ignored. From one panel: review, stage and commit; branches, stashes and merges with a conflict block editor; fetch, pull and push without freezing the UI; then GitHub issues, pull requests and releases over the GitHub API. A branch-per-ticket workflow is built in.

Git4D is written entirely in 4D. The only external dependency is the git executable itself — no Git CLI, no third-party tools or libraries. It is a fully functional source control app with AI integration that is directly available within your 4D project development environment.

What the demo will show:

• The panel — three interchangeable 4D layouts over the same engine: classic tabbed, a hybrid with a sidebar and a commit graph, and one built entirely in a web area
• The full local loop — status → diff → stage → commit/amend → branch, stash, merge, conflict resolution.
• The GitHub bridge — issues, pull requests (create, review changed files, merge) and releases, plus a sync dashboard.
• Ticket workflow — open a GitHub issue, get ticket/N created and switched to; close it with a merge commit that keeps history readable.
• AI integration — Claude explains a diff, a pull request, or a release as a teaching document (html), it’s literally Claude’s 2 cents on the topic.
• Also available: hooks into your 4D host app to take your own action(s) on git / GitHub commands.
